Ave Maria! “For seven centuries we strove for the recognition of the truth of the Immaculate Conception, and our efforts were crowned with the proclamation of the dogma and the apparition of the Immaculate at Lourdes. Now we move on to the second part of the story: the sowing of the seed of this truth in souls, fostering its growth and ensuring that it produce fruits of sanctity. And this in all souls who are and who will be until the end of the world.” (SK #485) +++ |
Ave Maria! “It happened in the third year before his death [St. Francis], that in order to excite the inhabitants of Grecio to commemorate the nativity of the Infant Jesus with great devotion, [St. Francis] determined to keep it with all possible solemnity; and lest he should be accused of lightness or novelty, he asked and obtained the permission of the sovereign Pontiff. Then he prepared a manger, and brought hay, and an ox and an ass to the place appointed. The brethren were summoned, the people ran together, the forest resounded with their voices, and that venerable night was made glorious by many and brilliant lights and sonorous psalms of praise. The man of God [St. Francis] stood before the manger, full of devotion and piety, bathed in tears and radiant with joy; the Holy Gospel was chanted by Francis, the Levite of Christ. Then he preached to the people around the nativity of the poor King; and being unable to utter His name for the tenderness of His love, He called Him the Babe of Bethlehem. A certain valiant and veracious soldier, Master John of Grecio, who, for the love of Christ, had left the warfare of this world, and become a dear friend of this holy man, affirmed that he beheld an Infant marvellously beautiful, sleeping in the manger, Whom the blessed Father Francis embraced with both his arms, as if he would awake Him from sleep. This vision of the devout soldier is credible, not only by reason of the sanctity of him that saw it, but by reason of the miracles which afterwards confirmed its truth. For example of Francis, if it be considered by the world, is doubtless sufficient to excite all hearts which are negligent in the faith of Christ; and the hay of that manger, being preserved by the people, miraculously cured all diseases of cattle, and many other pestilences; God thus in all things glorifying his servant, and witnessing to the great efficacy of his holy prayers by manifest prodigies and miracles.” - St. Bonaventure on the Life of St. Francis The Spirit of Christmas was captured in a profound way by St. Francis. Let us respond by reflecting deeply on our spiritual life and by turning to Him in silence with wonder and awe at the great mystery of the Birth of Christ. “Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will” -Lk 2:14 Ave Maria! |

Ave Maria! “What sentiments of humility, of love, of gratitude must have filled your heart, O Immaculate, when the Child Jesus was born and you contemplated His humility, His love, and the gratitude that the Incarnate God had towards you. Fill, I beseech you, our hearts as well with your humility, with your love, with your gratitude.” (SK #1236) +++ |
From Ave Maria Meditations For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
Several years ago a priest friend of mine wrote the following mediation while setting up his manger scene and I would like to share it with you: I think you should consider the words: “For unto you ….. ” in Luke 2:11. As I was putting up my nativity set these three words sprung out at me “For unto you … ” Yes Lord how I need your holy nativity. The visitation of Elizabeth and Mother Mary confirms life is precious in God’s eyes. You and I take our assigned places in God’s providence mine to stand and offer the sacrifice of Christ’s blood and body for the remission of our sins. (more…) |
Ave Maria! On Christmas Eve morning Fr. Angelo preaches about the end to the Advent Season and the start of the Christmas Season. But in the morning the readings come from the Advent season, 4th Monday, where the Gospel Reading is about the appearance of the Angel Gabriel to Zacharia. Listen as Fr. Angelo compares the disbelief of Zacharia with the belief of Mary where his tongue was bound while her toungue was loosed and how this is analogous with imperfect and perfect contrition in confession. Ave Maria! “What were you thinking, O Immaculate, when for the first time you laid the Divine Child in that little bit of hay? What sentiments flooded your heart while you wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, drew Him close to your heart and nursed Him at your breast? You knew well who that Child was because the prophets had spoken of Him, and you understood them better than all of the Pharisees and scholars of the Scripture€¦Furthermore, how many mysteries about Jesus did that Divine Spirit, who lived and acted in you, reveal only and exclusively to your immaculate soul!” (SK #1236) +++ |
