The swearing in of a Democratically-controlled Congress in 2006 was a setback for the Culture of Life. Today's public assault against the virtue of chastity and the sanctity of family life began in 1965 with the Supreme Court case of Griswold vs. Connecticut that legalized contraception. Ever since then, emotions have trumped right reason in the public discourse. Without a total conversion of our own hearts, others will never see the light of truth, and the slaughter of innocents, the trivializing of sexuality, and the emptiness of our cultural experience will continue. In this program, Fr. Angelo and Corinn touch on all the consequences of electing a party whose foundation rests on the principles of the Culture of Death.

You people are not pro-life but pro-fetus. Calling yourselves pro-life is not only mislading it is deceptive and hypocrical and, indeed, a misnomer.
You care not one bit about the lost lives of gays being shot dead by religious mitias in the streets of Baghdad and in their own homes. Or the gay genocide that the Churches in Nigeria are encouraging their Parliament to legalize. You don’t care about unwanted babies who won’t have parents, even foster ones, because you oppose gay adoption.
And, of course, you couldn’t care less about the hundreds of thousands of people who are killed in the dirty, illegal wars your beloved, ultra-conservative U.S. president is waging in the world.

In regard to the difference between being pro-life and pro-fetus, I do not see one. After all, isn’t it because a fetus will become a baby which will have to be taken care of that so many people want to kill their fetuses with abortion. Certainly, then, the fetus is alive and will become a walking talking human being which then makes it human. So if it is alive and it is human and if we are trying to save them from death are we not pro-life?

We certainly do care for anybody being shot dead in the streets of Baghdad; we care for anybody unjustly persecuted; and we certainly care for all babies (“fetuses” or born) with or without parents. We care that the will of God is obeyed and that all souls go to Heaven.
What we do not care for is an attitude of disobedience to the will of God. Homosexual actions fit that description, and from your letter this seems to be the origin of your angst.
President Bush is not our beloved anything! And the death of anyone innocent is horrible. However, we can’t control anything other than our own will, and we are going to be held accountable that this is in accord with God’s will. When all is said and done, nothing else matters.

I wish to differ with your generalization of those people in the pro-life movement. The pro-life movement encompasses protecting all lives, from conception until natural death. However, we particularly wish to protect from unjust treatment those with the tiniest voice — those who cannot be heard and can’t even speak for themselves. This is why you may not see pro-lifers out protesting for the rights of those to whom God has already given a voice (though I’m sure many pro-lifers do).
All pro-life individuals care about that baby – not only while in the womb, but for that child’s entire life, until natural death. But now there is a travesty where that fetus, which is a human being, has virtually no rights as long as it’s mother deems it undesirable.
As for gay adoption, I’m sure you know as well as anyone that there are thousands upon thousands of heterosexual couples ready and willing to adopt an infant. These babies, if they are saved from death by abortion, will not be without a parent or foster parent because we promote that each child have, ideally, a mother and a father.
I’m sorry that you are so bitter towards those who wish to speak for the voiceless. You accuse us of what we, in your eyes, do NOT do — yet have a real problem with what we DO do. That seems like a poor testimony against us – if that’s all you can come up with!
Perhaps we can’t save all of the starfish that are washed up on the beach — we pro-lifers just choose to start saving those who are the littlest – the youngest – the most defenseless.
I pray that one day you’ll join us at the beach.
Hi Ms. Thivierge, I’m not sure I understand your logic of having someone be “pro-fetus” while at the same time not being “pro-life”. Human (and animal) development contains the fetal development stage in each life-cycle. It is, by definition, alive. From zygotic to embryonic to fetal the “baby” is life. It (he or she rather) is organic matter created with the capacity to grow, reproduce and eventually die. I cannot speak for the “you people” you are addressing but I for one cherish ALL life and the Roman Catholic Church to which I belong does as well, at least since its inception in A.D. 33.
Man cannot play God, whether it’s with unborn babies, gays, or terroristic religious zealots. Life is life, pure and simple and we love and respect it in all its varieties.
I know for a fact that the Roman Catholic Church, and please note my emphasis for not all people who call themselves “catholics” are in communion with The Church, does not condone the death of anyone at any stage of human development. Furthermore, any policy which may not appear to make sense to the average observer is because they don’t have the benefit of all the information (e.g. gay adoption).
The fact that you commented on this blog leads me to believe you watched the video and for that, thank you. For at least you attempt to illuminate your thinking. Keep at it for the truth will surely set you free.
As a matter of record, some of the examples you mention are not committed by Christians but by Muslims. I wonder, have you spent equal time on their blogs and websites perusing what they stand for and offering some of your heartfelt advice on the treatment of women, children, non-muslims, gays and stray puppies?
