Clearing the Air #6 - Fr. Elias speaks against the Blasphemy Challenge >>> Play |

Ave Maria!
This week Fr. Elias takes-on Christopher Hitchins, the one who tried unsuccessfully to ruin the reputation of Mother Theresa of Calcutta and who is now trying to ruin God’s. Good luck! He and his cohorts on the €œRational Response Team€? have become quite fashionable on YouTube with their €œblasphemy challenge.€? But Fr. Elias points out that €œThe fool has said in his heart there is no God€? Psalm 14; for to say there is no God goes against reason because the existence of God is not a theological but a rational and philosophical truth as Vatican I Council states. Watch this video as Fr. Elias explains the try nature of blasphemy and how it does not lead to €œfreedom from the tyranny of theism€? but rather to enslavement to a darkened intellect and heart.

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of love, of truth, and of martyrdom. All the martyrs gave witness to Christ, and it was the Holy Spirit that gave them the inspiration and the strength to make their confessions. In today’s homily, Fr. Elias discusses this and he also discusses the special relationship that the Holy Spirit has with the Vicar of Christ, the Pope, who is the principal governor and teacher of the Faith. Father Elias tells us that the Holy Father is not just the shepherd and teacher of the Catholic Church, he is the shepherd and the teacher of the whole world because he is Christ’s representative on earth.

Today the Franciscans of the Immaculate celebrate the dedication of the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi:
Pope Gregory IX laid the first stone of the Lower Basilica the day after the canonisation of St Francis, on July 17th 1228. Two years later the saint’s body, that had been resting in the church of San Giorgio (the future church of St Claire’s) was brought here in secret for fear of looting by tomb raiders and buried in the unfinished church.

Ave Maria!
Recently, Pope Benedict XVI stated that the scene of the apostles in the upper room in prayer with Our Lady is the model for the Church in every age. It was in that room that the apostles received the seal and power of the Holy Spirit. In today’s homily, Fr. Elias discusses how we can be predisposed to the receiving and using the gifts of the Spirit of God, and he takes much of his material from a book on the Holy Spirit written by Italian priest Don Dolindo, a work soon to be translated and published by the Academy of the Immaculate. Don Dolindo insisted that practicing the moral virtues was the foundation for cultivating the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and he wrote that Our Lady was moved solely by the Holy Spirit, solely by the love of God. We cannot claim such a grace because we were not immaculately conceived, but we can plead with Our Lady to open our hearts so that we can receive the fullness of the Spirit that God desires us to possess. Ave Maria!
Fr. Elias presents the 8th International Symposium on Marian Coredemption which is being held at Fatima July 17-19th by the Franciscans of the Immaculate in union with the Day with Mary apostolate in England. This year’s theme is Co-redemption as key to a correct understanding of Redemption. The symposium can be combined with a pilgrimage to Fatima from July 12-20
This symposium is part of one of our primary apostolates, promoting the Dogmatic declaration of Mary as Coredeemer, which this year will be combined with an initiative by Dr. Mark Miravalle at Vox Popoli to gather signatures for a petition to present to Pope Benedict XVI. This initiative was spear headed by over forty Bishops and Cardinals who believe we are in great need of Mary’s help. You can read the letter by Mark Miravalle about how you can submit your petition to the Holy Father and how these Bishops and Cardinals have already done so. And, you can see the book on the acts of a special symposium held on May 3rd to the 7th, 2005 in Fatima, Portugal led by these Cardinals and Bishops that the Franciscans of the Immaculate helped arrange and which led to this new petition initiative.

Fr. Elias gives this update on the story of Hiasl the chimpanzee and the attempt of his owner to have him declared a person with a guardian in Austria. The attempt failed as the judge threw the case out of court, but Fr. Elias gives some analysis as to the underlying philosophical error that lead to this most strange court case and the ominous implications for our society.

€œWith Mary everything is easy. I place all my confidence in her, despite the snarls of the world and thunders of hell. I say with St. Bernard: €˜In her I have placed unbounded confidence; she is the whole reason for my hope.€™ €¦. Through Mary I will seek and find Jesus; I will crush the serpent€™s head and overcome all my enemies as well as myself for the greater glory of God.€? Such are the thoughts of the great saint whom we celebrate today, St. Louis de Montfort (1673-1716). It was St. Louis who inspired the late Pope John Paul II in his devotion to Our Lady. Listen now to this short sketch of his life given to us by Fr. Elias. [Click here for today’s readings.]

Ave Maria!
Divine Revelation is God revealing Himself to us. God did this primarily through the Person of Christ, & we know of Christ & His ministry primarily through the Gospels. Today the Universal Church celebrates the Feast of the Gosepl writer St. Mark, but here in the United States there’s little to celebrate in regards to what’s being taught in our Catholic universities & preached by most of our Catholic politicians. In this video, Fr. Elias speaks on the work of St. Mark & the revelation of God, & he also notes some of the moral & theological nonsense embraced by those in high places who call themselves Catholic…& he’s not afraid to name names. The Church is the vine God has planted into the world, & we as believers will be pleasing to God to the extent that we remain attached & faithful to the Church. Satan has a vine as well; his vine is the mass media, which eagerly spreads the message of godlessness, pleasure-seeking,& contempt for Christ throughout the whole world. We as Catholics need to wake up to this reality: either one thinks with the mind of Christ, or one inevitably & invariably will think with the mind of Satan. Please hear Fr. Elias’ powerful message of truth in today’s homily.

Today’s Gospel offers a wonderful meditation on the role of the Catholic Church in the world. The Church casts its net to catch souls, yet without Christ’s grace & guidance it can do nothing. Christ is the only hope of the world, & the Church is His only vehicle for salvation. Fr. Elias further reflects on St. Augustine’s two-fold commentary of Christ at one time fishing in the boat with the disciples & here standing on the shore guiding, as it were, their mission for food & for souls.
